      The company does not have much money left and you need newer engines to ensure that you can continue to provide service to your customers. You choose to replace your old and weak engines for some stronger second-hand locomotives. The replacement process does take some time, at which point your company’s profits drop as locomotives are taken out of service and replace. Once the replacement process is completed, profits increase and the stronger engines make themselves useful.
      Unfortunately you had to eliminate some routes from your system, since in the end you had to get rid of more engines than you were able to purchase. The end result is that you had less track and fewer engines on your roster, but this turns out to be beneficial. With less engines to sap away at your company’s money, profits increase gradually as more work orders come in. With time, your company expands again and money starts to pour in.
