Literature Text

Like most of the other railroad companies, you stick with the tried and tested steam technology. Eventually, however, curiosity gets the better of you. You purchase a handful of FT units and experiment with them. You assign them to light trains and yard work, while the steamers continue to handle most of the mainline work. Though the FTs have some reliability problems, the savings in fuel and labor make up for that. Throughout the war, your railroad continues to purchase steam engines from ALCo, Lima, and Baldwin, but you purchase a few more diesels for short line work and yard switching. This after the war change, however. EMD-GM revised the FT design and releases two new models, the F-series locomotive for freight and the E-series locomotive for passenger service. Other manufacturers follow with their own diesels. Soon, other railroads start to purchase these new diesels in large quantities and begin to dieselize their system.
Should you follow their lead, or stick with steam engines?
